YEEE HAW! I've been riding the bucking bronco of holiday craft shows- and I am still on the the beast. I think I am gonna win!!! This last weekend was the "hand made for the holidays" event on Fairfax.
Lots of great vendors and lots of fun. It was the first time that I had ever done a 2 day event, kinda tough on an old girl. I came home on Friday night and went to bed at 9:00pm- slept 10 hours straight trough. Did the same on Saturday night. There is something to be said for this going to bed early stuff.
Rumor had it that 1300 people came to the event on Friday, I have not seen a final head count yet for both days. My vending parter was the fabulous Kari of Funky Frocks and Sour Girl and our neighbors were Michelle Caplan and Hannah Made and Paula of Henry Road. We had loads of fun with them and either I or Michelle almost wet their pants laughing while she tried to teach me to knit. Once she allowed me to do it with my left hand(and no I am not a lefty) I did better,  but not by much. I stand by my statement "I don't knit." and I think Michelle stands by it too. Poor Kari had to witness it all ... twice. Good laughs anyway.  This coming weekend is my most favorite event of the year. It is close to home, a beautiful building, great organizers and really great vendors, live music and usually some food! Come on by if you are in the area- we'd love to see ya!!!  Holiday_sale_2007

handmade for the holidays

Big event this weekend!!! Handmade for the Holidays will have lots of stuff going on- and 150 vendors.
Located at Melrose and Fairfax and happening on Friday and Saturday, I think this is going to be a great place to do some shopping. I have been browsing the other vendors sites to get some ideas for Christmas shopping.

There is going to be a craft area, a free gift wrap station, a lounge to sit and catch your breath- and I hear that there is going to be free CHOCOLATE!!! Who can pass that up?!

p.s. I got another haircut!! hehe   that makes 2 for November-!!!

Whew!

Discovery Tour was a HUGE success!!! Joe and I had our doubts... it was so foggy this A.M. and so quiet out- I didn't think we would see anyone. But once it warmed up, things started popping and art was being sold and life was good. I was really surprised at how many people showed up. Even one of my students from Zinnia- (Thanks Kim!!! It was great seeing you!! ) Dayna R. was the host of the house and even though Joe and I opted to camp in a driveway instead of the house Dayna checked on us all day and was just so super nice. I gotta find out more about this girl- not only a total sweetie,   walker and performs with Lucent Dossier!  I can't wait to see them perform. O.k. this cowgirl has gotta get busy, I am low bunnies and mini quilts and collages and out of business cards all together and I have a 2 day event this weekend!!
Happy Sunday to ya.

Robot Boy

This is robot boy. I know it isn't a very good picture- sorry. But it is the only one that I have.
This is one of the first mini quilts that I ever made.  It is around 18 x15 inches.  Robot boy has been with me for some time- He sold this week at the Acorn Gallery opening for the Discovery Tour. Yippee!!!
I am so glad that he found his home.
See you Sunday on the  Discovery Tour- I will be at 5311 Granada Street, L.A. 90042

about hair

O.K. so here it is, I got a hair cut the other day. Just a quick trim- letting it grow out just a bit. It looked super cute when I left, but then as many of you know all to well the next day when you are on your own to style it- well, you never really know what you are going to get. It was bugging me. I am totally afraid of having a shag or a mullet, and my hair mullets easy. I asked H. " so what do you think about my hair?" I figured he would be honest and if I was looking a little to Jane Fonda in Klute he would tell me so, and I could go get it cut again. Oh yeah I forgot to mention that sometimes I go on hair cut binges and just keep gettin them .... I usually do so in secret for I am mocked for my illness!! He says to me- " ya know, I have known you for 13 years and for the last 10 your hair cut really has not changed that much and I don't get what the big deal is" CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!?! Then he said, " I have cut like 2 feet  off my hair and I don't feel any different, I went from being a hair farmer to looking like a marine, I don't get why you worry about it so much" CAN YOU EVEN BELIEVE THAT?!?! I mean really, I have had a classic bob, a flip, a fractured bob, an a-line and back to a fractured bob, I have had razor cuts and my neck shaved, long bangs, short bangs, no bangs. I have been red, auburn, light brown, highlighted within an inch of my life, low lighted, almost black and dark brown . What is wrong with him? Those are totally different hair cuts and if not executed correctly, I could look like Carol Brady with that big flip coming out from under that dome of hair.  Wow, and ya think you know someone.  By the way, I don't have a mullet, nor do I look like Jane or Carol, and I am liking my hair cut just fine for now.

Discovery Tour!

O.K. kids, this one is a big deal. I have never done this event before, but it is my understanding that you would be hard pressed to actually visit all the sites in one day. It is really fun to see other artist work space, and have the chance to do a bit of shopping too. Joe Carron of Zinnia fame and I will both be at
5311 Granada St. L.A., 90042.

On Saturday during the day I will be here!!!

Garden Pictures!!

Today was overcast in the morning and just perfect to sneak out into the garden before the sun starts blazing. I love it like that. I went out to plant some more sweet peas- but then started weeding and then pulled up the pumpkin vines etc.  Harry did some tree trimming a bit back and I saved some of the branches to build t-pees for my sweet peas. I am so excited that they might actually be covered in those delicious flowers  in the near future. So far I have built 8 trellises, they range in size from 4 foot to 6 foot, and hope to build one more.  Since removing the pumpkin vines I think I can make some smaller ones to sneak in behind my benches. I have hopes of the yard just bursting with flowers, keep your fingers crossed!!
O.k. here is my pumpkin crop, minus one already in the house and 2 taken to a Halloween party. I did finally pick them green, I just couldn't wait any longer! . Jackson asked that I please include her picture too, as she does spend lots of time in the garden.

Annie Oakley and the best Martini ever

I had the pleasure of meeting one of  my blog-land heroes Mary-Ann Moss on Friday.  It was hard to converse with her because I was too busy taking in the visual wonder that is her home and workspace. M.A., I can under certain circumstances make sentences, but if you give that much to look at and a drink- whew - well, words are just too much for me to muster you are lucky you got grunts. We sat on the porch with our mutual friend Paul , drinks and snacks- cats darting about and enjoyed the sunset. I have to tell you- I rarely sit still that long to see the sun set so it was very nice for me.  It turns out that M.A.  is not just an amazing artist, but a true mixologist as well. I had never had a martini, and really wasn't so sure I'd like it, but she made mine "light" and it was pink and had sugar and cinnamon on the rim, and it was all I could do to not just gulp it down and ask for a 52 oz. version. Though we were NOT drunk, later we did our best impressions of Annie Oakley. It was just a wonderful evening!

o.k. more wedding pictures..

We had our guests read, as a group, our vows to us. It gave me goosebumps, I don't think they all know how meaningful that was to us- to have them really be part of the ceremony. Our cake was a coconut cupcake tower, and brownies and our favors were Halloween candy in glassine packs. A rather non- traditional event and perfect for us.
