2nd. stencil

Tynstencil_3

I started working on this one Sunday night. I finally figured out how to tweak photoshop enough to get my image stencil ready. I don't know how I figured it out. I began to cut one, and messed it up, and when I cut the second one, I cut too much, so I just had a face with no hair! Harry had to help me. It is a different way of seeing- and I was missing it. He finally showed me where I had made the error. A piece of tape and a few minutes later this is it!!! This is from a photo of me in my 20' s- I'm really happy with how it turned out, and can't wait to try more.

handmade for the holidays

I know it is pretty early to be talking about the holidays, don't send me any hate mail-
But I wanted to share with you that I will be selling at this event!!!
Mark your calendars- and of course I will remind you ( he-he)

My tin fairy house at Zinnia went off well- we had a lot of laughs and fun, and we even made some stuff. I will have some pics soon. I happened to dismantle mine on the way home. I don't why- I threw it in my bag- just like everything else, I don't know why the wet glue didn't hold it all together.  Actually for the best as I was not completely satisfied with the insides of my house....

I have been reading Mary Ann's blog - dispatch from L.A. lately and have been influenced to try using the stencils. Well, I have not figured out how to use photoshop to my advantage yet ( but I will),  but I did cut my first stencil this last week! I had to find imagery that was simple enough for me to cut  and yet something that I would use. I didn't want any hearts and duckies.  I also used a store bought stencil for some mail art that is going out to some folks who came to a blog party... hmmm... Anyway it is super fun and addictive.  At least I hope it is the process that is making me addicted and not the paint fumes.  I have to confess that a session of bathrobe spray painting in the morning ( as in before coffee - gasp!) can be quite fun.

I also had the chance to go to the first meeting of  " Open 2 anything" . A group a friend has started to bring people together and create art and craft. We did papermakeing and for how many folks were there- it went amazingly smooth. My paper was of course the best.  O.k. in actuality my paper is so thick it could be mistStencil2_3aken for paper bricks, but I love it anyway.

The first picture is my mail art in progress, the second is the stencil that I cut and finally my handmade paper.

My new Favorite artist...

I have been seeing Annette's stuff on flickr for a while now... she lists under the name Carambatack ...and I have always been so impressed at how fine her work looks. I've been a fan. Well I finally bought something~ not something huge, just a little ATC of an owl that grabbed my heart and made me all goofy inside. I have been anxiously waiting and it finally arrived and it is even better in person!!!  Every part of the envelope was art to me.. her writing so perfect that I had to check that it was not actually a font I did not know. A little doodle in the corner, and of course a foreign stamp that always makes me happy. I open my envelope and a beautiful card also done by her with a lovely hand written note and my ATC inside sent in protective plastic. I just wanted to carry the whole thing around with me and show everyone it was all so pretty...
If you do not know Annettes art- please take a look- this is one amazing lady!

This is what I accidentally made on Sunday evening...
I was on my way to bed when I got lost and ended up in my art room. They are both done on wood, with collage paper ( some vintage) and image transfer.

Happybird2This is a new piece I just finished. It is 5 1/2" x 5 1/2".
I wanted to make something that could easily be framed in a simple, affordable,  standard size Ikea frame. It is vintage sheet music, and wallpaper plus other papers- and then instead of an image transfer, I chose to attach the transparency for a bit of texture. I sewed the transparency in place- and I like how it turned out. I think I am gonna post this one on etsy unframed so that it will ship for much less. You can see how it pops right into a 10x10 Ikea frame.
